I was looking around Guitar Center’s website and found some low-priced PA systems for use in my basic mobile DJ rig. I found the Harbinger HA120 Portable PA System and Harbinger HA60 Portable PA System. The HA120 is the bigger and more powerful, they are both the same price, but Guitar Center has a discount of 50% on the lesser model. I looked at reviews and there were some pretty bad ones for the lesser HA60 model, but the lowest review of the HA120 was a 4/5 star.

I need help deciding if either of these are good PA systems to look into buying. I can always price-shop them to death on Amazon, but I want to know if this is a good start. It just seems that $300 is very little for a full PA system (it’s on 120 Watts, though). I am looking into doing school dances and smaller events, so I won’t need anything too big, but I want room to grow so I can make some $$$ before I buy another set.

A: Well, it’s a brand I have never heard of. If you’re just starting out you have to think that people might not want to use you again if you have a sub-par system that doesn’t sound very good. Given that, the Harbinger system may do the trick for small venues but will (excuse my colloquialism) sound like a fart in a bathtub in a big room like a gym. If you possibly can, scrounge up some more money and get a recognized name brand like JBL, Behringer, Mackie etc,. When starting out it is sometimes wise to work at a loss in order to be as professional as possible. You might even consider renting gear for important events. You are only as good as your worst performance. Better to do a good job and get a good reputation than to make money and have a dissatisfied customer when you are first starting out. That’s how I built my business and I’m now doing quite well and very highly regarded.

It contains everything you need to do a live music mix and even record some remixes, the internal audio interface works great, the feel of the jug wheels is very smooth and all the buttons respond immediately as you know this is very important. It is very easy to use with the Numark MIXTRACK PRO button layout.

With the Mixtrack pro version – the built in sound card is convenient as it was not built into the regular Mixtrack, the platters are sturdy and have excellent response in terms of scratching. The browser knob in the center of the console allows you to browse your iTunes library and choose which songs to cue next. Although this controller is about 90 percent plastic, it still is durable and lightweight for travel purposes.

If you are a beginner dj and you’re looking for a decent controller, at the same time want to stay low in the price the Numark Mixtrack Pro dj Software Controller with Audio I/O is for you. This system is great but only for beginners – if you are a more advance dj and are looking for better dj equipment then I would recommend the Numark MIXDECK Universal Dj System (click here to check out my review) which is super nice. The pro system doesn’t have all the bells and whistle as the universal system but none the less it’s a great dj equipment for beginners.

What I didn’t like:

One thing that was not too impressive is that the scratching is not really that great nothing like the real thing but its close to it, like I said this is for beginners. You just have to make sure your laptop processor is fast or you have enough RAM memory to work at optimum conditions so your laptop won’t freeze on you, many have found that Mac works best.

The bottom line – If you’ve been hurting for true dj equipment that has great mixing and easy built-in audio, you simply cannot do any better than the Numark MIXTRACK PRO. It is ‘just’ – plain and simple. There is nothing in this price range that offers the combination of compatibility, durability, sound quality and mobility that the Numark MIXTRACK PRO does.

The Hercules MP3 e2 is great for any begining computer jock or any experianced DJ starting to get into computer DJing. This unit offers many of the features that control your DJ software I used mine for VDJ and it was plug and play I use it 3 or 4 nights a week and have never had a problem with it. This is the controller to get if you are just starting out and is priced just right so that if you feel like you want to go to computer DJing full time you did not spend a lot of money when you want to upgrade to a controler with more features,
